I found myself trying product after product, spending more each time and still feeling like nothing was working. The more I wanted clean ingredients, the more expensive it became. At some point I was juggling a separate scalp oil, a leave-in treatment, and several other products. A lot to manage and a lot to spend on things that weren’t delivering.

So I started looking for a simpler way.

I started using a natural hair oil made with just three ingredients: castor oil, olive oil, and rosemary. One product for both my scalp and my hair. What surprised me most wasn’t how simple it was. It was how much better my hair responded.

No buildup. Deep moisture. Softer, shinier, and more natural than anything I had been buying.

Why These Ingredients Work

This blend focuses on deep nourishment and scalp support using just three ingredients:

Castor oil is thick and nutrient rich, supporting hair growth and strengthening strands. Especially helpful for dry scalp and thinning areas.

Olive oil adds moisture, softness, and shine while helping to smooth the hair and reduce breakage.

Rosemary oil supports scalp health and encourages hair growth, and has been used in natural hair care for years for good reason.

Together they create one simple treatment that replaces multiple steps and actually delivers.

What You’ll Need

You can make this as a single treatment or mix a small batch to store and use throughout the month. I typically make enough for a few treatments and keep it in a glass bottle.

How I Use This Hair Mask

Apply to your scalp and massage gently, then work the oil through your hair down to the ends. I like to use a scalp scrubber to really work it in.

Leave on for a couple of hours. You can go longer or even overnight, but because castor oil is so rich I personally prefer to wash it out the same day.

Shampoo thoroughly to remove. Double shampoo if needed.

What I Noticed After Using This

I wasn’t expecting it to work as well as the products I had been buying. It worked better. No buildup. My hair felt deeply moisturized and noticeably shinier from the first use. What started as a way to simplify my routine ended up being the most effective hair treatment I had tried.

A Few Tips That Helped Me

Start with a small amount and build as needed. Castor oil can be sticky so I like to brush it through and pull my hair up into a bun while it sits.

Stay consistent. Simple routines work best over time.

Where This Fits Into The Jars Method

This is what simplifying looks like in real life. Instead of layering products, you choose one blend made from real ingredients that does the work of several.

Practical, affordable, and easy to stick with. That’s the foundation of the JARS Method.

Keep It Simple

Hair care doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.

I was surprised by how much better my hair responded when I stopped layering products and focused on just a few that actually worked. Less really was more.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your routine, start with one swap. See how your hair responds before adding anything else. That’s how this started for me with my scalp scrub and it completely changed the way I care for my hair. Here’s my current natural hair care routine.
