When I first started simplifying my home, vinegar became a staple.
I didn’t realize how many products it would replace. I just knew I wanted something more natural. Over time it became one of the most used ingredients in my home. Not because it does everything perfectly, but because it does enough. And that’s what simplicity really is.
How I Use It
1.Refreshing Laundry
I add about half a cup into my wash cycle for towels and workout clothes to help remove buildup and keep fabrics fresh.
2. Cleaning Surfaces
A simple mix of vinegar and water is my go-to for counters, sinks, and everyday cleaning. I keep it in a spray bottle and it’s replaced most of the other bottles I used to keep under the sink.

3. Dishwasher Refresh
I add a bowl to the top rack and run a cycle to clear buildup and odors. You’ll be surprised at how much this does.
4. Sink + Garbage Disposal Cleaner
Paired with baking soda and lemon, I use this to scrub down my sink and keep my garbage disposal fresh. Three ingredients I already have on hand and it works better than anything I was buying before.
5. Pickiling
One of my favorite ways to use vinegar is for homemade pickling. It’s an easy way to extend the life of fresh produce and always have something flavorful in the fridge.
I keep it very simple. Vinegar, water, salt, and a little honey or sugar for balance, plus whatever vegetables I have on hand. Cucumbers, red onions, carrots, and peppers all work well.
To make a quick pickle:
- Slice your vegetables
- Heat equal parts vinegar and water with a pinch of salt and a small drizzle of honey or sugar
- Pour over the vegetables in a jar
- Let sit in the fridge overnight, or longer for more flavor
It’s one of those small habits that makes your kitchen feel more intentional. Instead of throwing things away, you’re turning them into something new using ingredients you already have.

Why It Simplifies My Home
Instead of having a different product for everything, vinegar covers multiple uses in one jar. It reduces clutter, makes cleaning feel more manageable, and costs a fraction of what I used to spend.
Start With One Jar
You don’t need to change everything at once. Start with vinegar, use it in a few ways, and build from there.
Baking soda is another staple I use alongside it, and together they replace so many products I used to buy. If you’re new to natural cleaning, this is the first step I’d take toward a simpler, more sustainable routine.
Disclaimer: Always test natural cleaning ingredients on a small area first and use ingredients carefully around children, pets, and delicate surfaces.
