I spent a lot of time looking for a protein powder I actually felt good about using. Clean ingredients, simple, affordable, it shouldn’t have been that hard to find. Eventually I stopped looking and just made something myself using ingredients I was already reaching for anyway.

Why These Ingredients
What I love most about this blend is that every ingredient is something you can recognize and pronounce. No fillers, no additives, just whole foods that each bring something real to the table.
Walnuts Rich in omega-3s and adds a natural richness to the flavor without overpowering anything.
Hemp Hearts One of the few plant sources that’s a complete protein, plus healthy fats that keep you feeling full.
Chia Seeds Packed with fiber and omega-3s. A small amount goes a long way.
Flax Seeds Great for digestion and another strong source of fiber. I was already adding these to smoothies before this blend existed.
Pumpkin Seeds A solid source of plant-based protein and minerals. They also blend down into a fine meal that gives the whole mixture a great base texture.
Strawberries Freeze-dried strawberries bring a hint of natural sweetness and antioxidants without any added sugar.

Homemade Protein Blend
Equipment
- high speed blender or food processor
- large mixing bowl
- glass jar
Ingredients
- 1 cup pumpkin seeds
- 1 cup flax seeds
- 1 cup walnuts
- 1 cup chia seeds
- 1 cup hemp hearts
- 1 cup freeze-dried strawberries
Instructions
- Add the pumpkin seeds to a high-speed blender and blend into a fine meal. Add the flax seeds and blend again until fully combined. This creates a smooth, neutral base.
- In a separate batch, blend the walnuts until finely ground. Add the chia seeds and pulse a few times to combine: avoid over-blending, as they can become gel-like.
- Blend the freeze-dried strawberries into a light powder. This keeps the texture dry and evenly distributed throughout the mix.
- Combine everything
- Add all blended mixtures to a large bowl. Stir in the hemp hearts and mix until fully combined and uniform.
- Transfer to a sealed glass jar and store in a cool, dry place.
Notes
- Blending in stages keeps the texture light and prevents clumping
- Avoid over-processing chia seeds to maintain the right consistency
- You can adjust the strawberry amount for more or less sweetness
- For best freshness, store in an airtight container

How I Use It
This blend is versatile enough to work with just about anything already in your routine.
- Stir into smoothies
- Sprinkle over yogurt or oatmeal
- Add to overnight oats
- Mix into baked goods
- Blend with milk for a simple drink
It has a subtle, nutty flavor with a hint of natural sweetness from the strawberries.
The JARS Method
If you’re looking to simplify your routine, this is a good place to start. You don’t need a shelf full of powders and supplements. Just a few whole ingredients, bought in bulk, made once, stored in one jar. That’s really what The JARS Method is about.
