Here are 5 easy swaps to start living more naturally using simple ingredients you already have in your pantry. Small shifts like these are what natural living is all about. They bring you back to a simpler, more intentional way of living. Built on real ingredients.

1. Swap Multi-Surface Cleaners → Vinegar + Water

A 1:1 mix of white vinegar and water can replace most store-bought cleaners. I keep it in a reusable spray bottle so it’s always ready to use and easy to refill.

  • Works for counters, glass, and bathrooms
  • No synthetic fragrances
  • Costs pennies per use

This was one of the swaps that simplified cleaning for me.

Note: Vinegar should not be used on natural stone surfaces like marble or granite, as the acidity can wear down the finish over time. For stone countertops, use a gentler soap-based cleaner instead.

2. Swap Body Scrubs → Sugar + Coconut Oil

This replaced multiple products in my routine instantly. The best part is how many ways you can use it. I usually mix it in a small glass jar and keep it in my shower.

I have full posts on how to make a lip scrub and a scalp scrub using this same base, so one simple mix goes a long way.

  • Works for your body, lips, and scalp
  • Gentle and non-drying
  • No added fragrances

3. Garbage Disposal & Sink Cleaners → Baking Soda + Lemon

Skip the artificial sink cleaners. A little baking soda and a leftover lemon half is all you need.

Here’s how I do it: cut a lemon in half, sprinkle baking soda directly in the sink, and use the lemon to scrub. Let the baking soda sit for a few minutes, then rinse with vinegar and watch it fizz. It cleans, deodorizes, and leaves the sink smelling fresh.

  • I originally saw this as a hack to make the sink shinier, but now I just use it as a way to deep clean it when needed.
  • Costs almost nothing and uses what you already have
  • Neutralizes odors instead of masking them
  • The lemon half does double duty as a scrubber

4. Swap Store-Bought Dressings → Olive Oil + Vinegar

A 3:1 ratio of olive oil to vinegar is really all you need. I add a pinch of salt, a little garlic or Dijon if I have it, and shake it in a small jar.

It takes less than a minute, tastes better than most store-bought dressings, and you know exactly what’s in it. No preservatives, no added sugar, no ingredient list you have to decode.

  • Use apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar depending on what you have
  • Customize with herbs, honey, or lemon
  • Stores in the fridge for up to a week

5. Swap Synthetic Face Masks → Honey, Yogurt, Lemon + Turmeric

This one replaced every store-bought masks I used to buy. It’s made from ingredients you likely already have and takes two minutes to mix.

I have a full post on exactly how I make it — ratios, how long to leave it on, and what each ingredient does for your skin.

The Shift Isn’t About Doing More

It’s about using what you already have in better ways. If even one of these swaps simplifies your routine, that’s enough. Start there. Use it consistently. Then add another when you’re ready.

That’s how natural living actually sticks, not all at once but one small swap at a time.

Disclaimer: Always test ingredients and products carefully, especially if you have allergies, sensitivities, or specific health concerns.
